You can just go to friends on Xbox one and favourite them and then you will see normally their pop up. You can also turn it on for everyone if you prefer it.
Also with windows 10 xbox app you can turn xbox one notifications on aswell. It is usefull for me because you also get 'this person is broadcasting now' and then I just can go to twitch and check their broadcast.
Also people should not forget that sony is a hardware company first and that Ms is a software company so they should have an easier time with comping up updates and doing what the fans requests.
