The Wii U was targeting a greater audience than the Wii. Doesnt mean they manage to actually do it. We dont even know what it is... but if its major offerings are ports of the Wii U ( seen as a generation behind already) then i dont see how they are going to convince anyone. There is something about the NX that we are not seeing. I dont think it will replace the Wii U after this, if its coming in 2016. It will be a parallel device.

If its a new console then its not coming before 2017. I'm perfectly convinced of that now.

Yeah but Wii U was backwards compatible so ports weren't needed. Of course is NX has BC as well then it renders the point moot, but if it isn't then it's still a possibility. Sequels to their games would obviously be better, but they take time to produce. If they were to do ports/remasters of some of their bigger Wii U titles then it would be relatively cheap and quick, would shift a decent amount of software making profit and perhaps most importantly would sell consoles. There may be a lot of ifs and buts about it, but don't rule it out either. Under the right circumstances it would make quite a lot of sense for Nintendo to do so.

I'm not expecting the NX to be backwards compatible. Given the trouble with developers and their wish to have tech that allows for easy porting between devices, i am convinced they will change architecture next gen, wich will make ports more costly.

If this was coming to the NX next year, i dont see the point of this announcement. As you say, the only chance this would come to the NX is if they could make backwards compatibility work.

But, again... the NX needs to have its own software to be a sucess. Backwards compatibility doesnt win wars, as we have seen with the Wii U.
