Do people have much nostalgia for Avatar? I saw it in theaters and then forgot about it. I am trying to think of character names of quotable lines of dialog from it, and nothing comes to mind. Does it get referenced in pop culture in 2015?

You can say that for a lot of movies released in the last few years. Every few months a movie comes around and breaks a few records, and then is forgotten about instantly (Fast, Avengers, frozen etc)

As for the topic, no, no rerelease could push it to 3 Billion. The inevitable double runs etc will only be shown in limited theatres and the ''4K'' or whatever else Fox comes up with won't work either.

The max a rerelease could do is probably 10m domestic and maybe 50m international.

Avatar 2 will not break 2 billion either.

I think you choose 2 movies for your examples that don't really fit. People won't be forgetting the avengers as that series of movies are still going strong, while this avenger made less than the last and ant man wasn't big at the box office you won't see them canceling sequels anytime soon. As for frozen, it's still huge with its target demographic, and between toys and clothing it might have done even more than what the movie made in theaters.

As for the main topic, no I don't see it passing that with rereleases. You mention titanic, but that movie had more tickets sold in its run than avatar at least in the US.
