The developer kit will be focused on developer and enterprise needs (out in the next 12 months). Nadella said a consumer edition is a few years away, claiming HoloLens is a “five year journey” similar to Windows 10.

Yeah hololens was a bit of a marketing stunt by MS really, showing it off at E3 when it's not really a viable product for the end user for such a long time.
