Goku can only instant transmit where there is a person.

not sure, but he can do instant transmisison anywhere as long as he knows where he's going.

The person thing is when he is tracking someone's engery and uses it to transmt to where that energy signature is.

I could be wrong though. been a while since i last watched dbz.

fun fact: goku can tank punches from planet busting enemies like cel and freeza with no noticable damage and yet gets a huge ass fat lip when slapped by chi-chi....
