Also, their fans would gain by having the ability to play notable PS3 games on PS4. But I'm not sure if Sony cares about what benefits their fans these days. 

I was talking about PS2 BC. Of course I'd love PS3 BC, too! I could play online with two consoles in the same house for free!

WELL... Sony already has a great PS2 Emulator on PS3. Which is used for PS2 Classics in the PS Store. Digital Foundry actually did an article on it. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vs-ps2-classics-on-ps3

The results are mixed from performance being a little better or a little worse.

Ultimately, Sony already did the work in creating a PS2 emulator but simply aren't making the effort to port it to PS4.
