Yeah do her attacks do varying damage; a bit like the grenades in FFXII? Sure seems like it.

Oh so that explains the massive damage range when I was fighting the boss. I thought it was some strange battle mechanic I didn't know about but that's good to know.

It's literally like rolling the dice with each attack.
