If you are talking about relationships: no. Guys without confidence and with poor hygiene and manners finish last, and nice guys almost always finish first. If at bare miinimum you have good manners and get a no for an answer well that's not something to be ashamed or blame others about.
If you are talking about work; sometimes, yes. Being nice and considering others in a competitive environment is not really a good idea.
