The universe will change that. The problem is that DC heroes are incredibly bland in the forms they've taken before Batman Begins. There's a reason they tried for Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern; they needed to try and use somebody with character to make the hero seem relevant.
They struck gold with the Dark Knight trilogy for the masses, and MoS for the character. They're giving souls to otherwise flat characters and developing them in new ways.
