Suggesting that you could have owned something but decided against it does not in any way address what I've said. What it does do though is show that EVEN when it's within your grasp, you reject it which helps cement the notion that 'envy' cannot have any part in your motives. It's like the lover who loses his love and immediately reaches for the 'I didn't love her anyway' card. It's a reaction to a deep seated insecurity that only self delusion can alleviate.
