 Next Level Games working on a Metroid spinoff is not preventing Retro or SPD from making brand new entries in the Prime or 2D series so that complaint is invalid.

Actually, the Metroid complaints are valid. Nintendo themselves decided a standard game wasn't the way they wanted to go. All those leaked metroid game deisgns that were vetoed a few years ago. But the fans wanted that. So, Nintendo did prevent it. And since other people confirmed no other type of Metroid is near. Valid compaint. Nintendo could of just had two games going on at the same time. Fed Force. And something people wanted.
