It could just as well be that Nintendo's seen the WiiU ship sinking for a long time and has transitioned dev tools and resources to a new platform for at least the last year.
The fact we know close to nothing about what Retro Studios and EAD have in flight for 2016-2017 is really interesting.
WiiU 3rd party support could actually be lacking for this reason also : developers are already spending more time learning about the NX capabilities than bother with the WiiU at all.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
