I think Nintendo is moving a lot of their handheld gaming to mobile devices. I think NX will be a home console, with a possible handheld version to follow and possible Nintendoized versions of smartphones and tablets to come with added gaming features and possible buttons.
I also think it's quite possible that NX is Wii U like, but with a gamepad that can truly act as a handheld. I don't think NX is a true traditional handheld under any circumstance, however.
