I hated the N64 controller and don't like the GC controller. Classic is ok. Wiimote+nunchuck is ok for most games...but not Brawl.
I like the SNES layout which is still used today with the classic (with added shoulder buttons), but the dualshock and xbox controllers have a nice grip. The only thing the wheel does for wii is add a grip that you get with those controllers.
