Actually the sequals are the best what you can get for your system. Hall of fame of any entertaiment system is made of sequals. You have to earn for a sequal first. Mostly sequels are better than all what we saw before (in certain saga). FF excluded.
Well... with the exception of VERY few titles, look at the sales figures for the sequels.
There is a definite downward curve in terms of sales - for each subsequent sequel. Less and less people buy each one. If too many are created, the franchise itself is in danger of complete death. Eventually It has toi be reborn (with a completely new gameplay style, etc). Even releases on a new console won't help it (unless it has serious changes).
This is what caused the "depression" in the Japanese games industry in the first place - too many sequels, not enough originality. It took the DS (which forced new gameplay modes) to change things around.
Yes, you are right but it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Sale it is not everything. Take a Virtua Fighter for an instance - VF5 has the weakest sale of all - so what - it is still the best one of the franchise. Same with Tekken, Ridge Racer and so on. If you ask me about best games for PSP - I would say Tekken: DR, Syphon Filter: DM, MGS:PO, Daxter, Wipeout, Killzone, GTA - all sequels but you can't disagree when we talk about quality of this list.
