I started Xenoblade and The Last Story at the same time. Xenoblade overshadowed TLS at the time. I thought it was a decent ARPG at the time. On my second playthrough now, and I am having much more fun.

I don't know... is Xenoblade REALLY an action RPG? When I think of an action RPG, I think of games where you don't need to grind and in Xenoblade, they FORCE you to grind. It's the one and only thing that pisses me off about the game. I would get really into the story, get to a boss... then all of a sudden, nope. I'd have to spend a few hours grinding away just to beat the boss. Then, I'd advance to the next boss and, again... grind, grind, grind.

No Xenoblade isn't an ARPG. But it still fit the JRPG craving that I wanted at the time.

What makes a game an ARPG or not is whether or not attacks are mapped to keys/buttons 1:1. Meaning there are no/few menus.

Also you shouldn't have to grind at all in Xenoblade if you do side-quests. You run risk of being OVERLEVELED not underleveled.

An example of an ARPG that has grinding in it is the Tales of series.
