Because on the PC multiplayer is free? 

I'm actually really curious as to why it's such a big thing for companies to charge for access on their own online platform. 

Because my £50 should grant me access to the whole game, not just the offiline portion

Admittedly, I pay for PS+. I like the free games, which are occassionally good, and the online save game back up
