Biggest bull in the show is HOW Ki actually works or what it actually is. It's a terrible plot device that does EVERYTHING the creator wants it to and can be generated in higher quantities...by God knows what methods. 

 

Thing is that I doubt Toriyama considered any physics ideas while writing DB. It's all the better for it, but very strange at times as well. 

 

Edit: In the previous page of the manga Goku states that if he would be tied down with 10t on each limb, he wouldn't be able to move at all. So it's not about ki energy there. 

Oh come on, Kamehameha's power depends on the ki of its user, as does every energy beam and every physical attack in the show. Goku's ki energy is billions of times stronger when he's fighting against Cell than when he's fighting against Piccolo. Ki doesn't do everything, its used pretty judiciously by Toiyami. There are a few inconsistencies but they usually are used as fillers.

Its atleast way more consistant than Superman, on one hand you have Silver Age Superman, on the other, he's once defeated by Batman.

And between Silver Age Superman and Batman-whoops-his-ass Superman we have Crisis events that were created to deal with the horribly overpoweredness of this character. 

Ki doesn't do EVERYTHING?

Hmmmmm.

List of things Goku apparently can do with Ki:

1. Pew pew pew.

2. MIND READIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING

3. The super power of flight

4. Sense life

5. Hair coloring

6. Shape changing - Ok, not Goku, but Frieza and Cell do this -

7. Transformation into more powerful forms that generate more ki in order to transform into more powerful forms that generate even more ki...uhhhhhhhhh....what?

8. Aura light shows
