Of course it's possible, anyone that thinks a console version (or to be more specific PS4 version, cause lets be real, nobody ever say anything against the notion of a Wii U/NX version) wouldn't sell enough to be viable really needs to step into reality.

I don't know. They did change development of MH Tri from PS3 to Wii back in the seventh generation, and that was precisely to reduce costs. I am unsure how well the game would've sold on PS3 with huge costs involved. Probably slightly less or the same as it did on Wii, but since costs are greater, profit is less.

Furthermore, one must also consider opportunity cost. The Wii version of MH Tri (the original release) sold less than the "enhanced" port it gave to 3DS. Why spend more to sell less? Sure there are greater revenues per copy sold on PS4, but they don't seem to outbalance the increase in costs. ($10-15 more /copy vs. 3-5 times the development cost.)

There are only three ways Capcom will go back to consoles with MH in my opinion, and this includes NX/Wii U.

1. They have an artistic vision which they think will be big and make the game as successful on consoles as it is on handhelds.

2. There is a unified platform that makes the game playeable on both handheld and home console, with marginal differences due to advancements in mobile technology (720p vs. 1080p.)

3. Cost of console development decreases substantially.

It's really just a question of how they'd make the console version next to the still existing handheld version, if they go the DQ XI way then sure that may be too expensive of a port to make sense, but if they go the Bandai Namco way of just making a 1080p/60fps port of the handheld game on console then that should not mean huge dev costs, they could even do some further enhancements aside from that and it still shouldn't be too expensive.

But we'll see anyway, according to Verendus there'll be a Monster Hunter game on PS4, it shouldn't take years to see how that turns out if it's true.
