That could have been due to the fact that even in the first half, apparently events weren't exactly translated 1:1 from the manga. If you read around a bit, you'll see that production for the anime was a little bit off, a huge chunk of the manga was flat out skipped over, things were changed, altered, etc., and Full Metal Alchemist is just the most popular comparison I have for what they ultimimately ended up doing to it. In the end, they didn't make a bad product, but at the same time, it isn't the anime adaptation people actually wanted.
