The only thing that impresses me about the dual shock is the fact that the joysticks also have buttons. Otherwise I far prefer the Gamecube controller. It fits in the hand better.
I have found it useful for playing roms on my computer though.
It also does pretty nice if I hold it in my left hand and mouse with my right for FPS games that support that. It's nice because I've got, lets see, Joystick, 3 primary buttons, and 4 spare buttons(5 or 6 if you also count the select and start buttons) that I can map keys to that normally are handled by the keyboard on mouse w/keyboard games. It's not quite Wiimote w/ nunchuck, but it actually has the advantage when it comes to sheer button number, which is nice since Mouse w/ keyboard tends to be button command heavy.
