Or you just dont want to accept Nintendo is capable of making bad games.  Even inferior to Indie games on many aspects. Now I mentioned four things In which I felt Trine 2 is better: graphics, sound, design and originality. You refuted only one: design. That makes me believe that you agree on every other point. You claim gameplay wise NSMBU is better than Trine 2? I completely disagree. Besides, the idea that NSMBU might had better gameplay, from the perspective of a lesser mind, doesn't do anything to refute my main point: That most Nintendo games are closer to Indie quality than AAA. That implies production values obviously, since great gameplay depend on creativity not on high budgets.

So NIntendo is able to make very good games with huge sales and do it for cheap. 
How is it sounds bad?
