You mean the flag of an independent nation? It's only a racist symbol if that's what you make of it, otherwise it's nothing more than a handful of countries that wanted to leave the union and join together

From what I've read the flag wasn't even that of the independent nation, simply a flag that was sometimes used in battles but never officially taken on by the confederacy.  The current iteration only became popular during the abolishment of segregation in schools where communities fighting against it would put up this flag, which seems to define this particular iteration of the flag as a racist symbol pretty definitively.

Hmmmm...interesting point. I'd have to look into that, I always thought it was simply the Confederate flag, but now you have me wondering.

But I will argue with everyone that it in itself is a "racist" flag. Yeah most people that wave it proudly are pretty much just racist "rednecks" or city people who think it makes them country...but if you wave it on the basis of states rights and support of what could have been the confederate states of America, then I think it's a legitimate flag.
