If it makes you feel better I would have been down with Bayleef making the top 3.  I liked Bayleef; she (I always think of Bayleef as a she :P ) was my second starter ever after Typhlosion.  Bayleef is probably in my top 3 favorite starters, definitely in the top 5. 

You see? Another Bayleef fangirl. She really is the best and so cute too!
