None of the manufacturers ever quote shipped numbers for Australia, they always quote GfK numbers. Last time, however, Sony also noted that they had sold another 28k bundled with Bravias not tracked by GfK. I'm thinking from now on Sony will be adding these to the GfK numbers.

I'm pretty sure it's just a badly worded article when it says:

The 238,000 figure means the PS3 has easily eclipsed the first-year sales total for the PlayStation 2, which clocked in 146,000 in sales for in its first 12 months.

Note that this isn't a quote from Sony, it's the author's words.

We already knew PS3 had outsold PS2 first year by the end of 2007 as GfK had PS3 on 155k. Also, they always want to give the highest figure possible, if Sony wanted to announce how many PS3 had sold through March they would have announced it immediately. You can assume the numbers being announced now are the most recently available, probably through last week.

238k is too low a number to be shipped. When adding the Bravia bundles to GfK numbers it's about what it would be expected to be by now. Hopefully we'll get Q1 results soon.
