I've never met him, but I remember fond memories every E3 and seeing him there to usher in the new games and Nintendo news that would be coming soon. I can say I even shed tears when watching some of the tributes of him and already missing him because he'll never be on another Nintendo Direct. With that being said, I've waited for a whole day before even attempting at a replacement thread. Only reason why I didn't do it was because of everyone's reaction to anything negative was clearly panned by the community. But, had I not read the consensus of most VG members, I would have made a thread like that. Well, it's been over 24hrs and I think I should have. Not because it was wrong or right, but because I knew me. I knew that I cared about Iwata, but I was still curious enough to ask. And why not other than being disrespectful? The question is on everyone's head, whose next? Well, that's my opinion. |
You don't have to think about cordiality or decency, you just have to be a decent human being. Kudos to you for being considerate enough to guage the mood of the community and act accordingly.
There is nothing wrong with asking who might replace Iwata, or what might change at Nintendo as a result. But there's a way to ask it, and there's a time to ask it.
Two threads popped up on this site that were inappropriate because
a) they were posted way too soon, (one within an hour of the news breaking)
b) the OPs were insensitive, one of them so much so that it garnered 3 pages worth of protests.
In contrast, this thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=205928&page=1 was posted about 20 hours after the news.
It doesn't directly ask who will replace Iwata or how Nintendo might change, but its focus on the next CEO's strategy with future consoles has allowed the discussion to touch on both topics in a sensitive and respectful manner without upsetting anyone.
