Compared to the other executives in the industry (even Reggie) who seemed like simple businessmen, Iwata seemed to have a genuine passion for gaming. While Nintendo's recent years haven't been the best, people seem to forget that he helped Nintendo bounce back from the dreadful Gamecube era, and helped launch two of the biggest products the industry has ever seen.

He was bizarrely likeable. There was something endearing about the thick Japanese accent, the measured speech, and his undeniable enthusiasm. I'll miss him bringing the latest Nintendo news "directly" to me.

The industry needs more people who will take risks and go against the grain, even if it doesn't always work out. Hopefully, he'll be succeeded by someone who will maintain that attitude.
