you have to understand that ps and xbox owners aren't like nintendo fans.  ps and xbox owners buy those console for the whole library, obviously the sales are going to be more spread out.  most nintendo fans buy the console for nintendo games only, that's why ninteno games sales varies hugely depending of the install base, this is also the reason nintendo games has huge attach ratio unlike ps and xbox conole.

We don't talk about PS and XBOX VS Ninty

We talk about Ninty and XBOX VS PS

The point is: the PS2 sold so much BECAUSE the marketing, and the people can say that PS2 have the better of the better games ever, that's change nothing.

The DS has sold like a monster. why? because Pokémon... because Mario... yes... but the bigger reason is the marketing ( that many people call "casual" , this word is used only for the Nintendo marketing recently... )

The PS2 was also my first console. (i was a kid, and my dad buy this console because he, like me, didn't knew what was XBOX or GC)

Like all of my friends. All with a PS2, and they even knew what was one GameCube, or one XBOX...

If we agree that the whole marketing process is to let people know abut your product and how it works, then yes, it did his trick but you can't say that marketing was the only reason because that's like saying that nintendo and microsoft didnt marketed their product at all or Sony outmarketed both.  That doesn't make any sense.  The big three gave their fair share of marketing and people decided which one of the three met their needs.  If people don't like a product, you can spend all the money you have on marketing and it still won't change anything.

If your point was to say that there were others factors that lead to amazing ps2 sales aside from games, then I can gree with that such as brand recognition, DVD support, piracy.

My first console that gen was a gamecube, you want to know what was my system seller? a baseball game (all star basball 2003).  Few years later I bought a ps2, you want to know what was my system seller? Dragon ball budokai because the gamecube version released 6 months later and I coudn't wait.  Everyone has their system seller and it doesn't need to be a game in the millions range.
