You may be overappreciating like OP the impact of the Elite controller with COD gamers and the only way to prove how much value gamers see in that controller is to see sales and see how gamers opt for a specific Xbone console over a PS4 console just to play with that controller. You don't know why Micro didn't get/or sought another contract with Activision. If install bases were so determining then Micro wouldn't have gone for those contracts continuously in the past gen.


You know MS only cares about US. And COD is most popular in the US. So yes, install bases mattered last gen.

So, then, your argument falls apart completely when the difference between the PS4 and XBOne in the US is miniscule, in the grand scheme of things. And with MS doing any and everything they can to sell better than PS4 in the US, COD is a pretty big deal. 

If install base is what matters when determining what kind of marketing deals MS is going for, then they wouldn't go for any, if they would go and "skip out" on COD, which is one of the biggest franchises in the US, because they're behind in the US. "We're down only 10% in the US. Better panic and "skip out" on one of the biggest franchises that will help us sell better, even though it helped us destroy PS4 last holiday's NPDs"....sounds kinda silly, doesn't it?

Also, the best players are on Xbox? When you even bring up that COD PS4 has been outpacing the XBOne version since Ghosts? What, are the "best players" just conspiring together and saying "hey, multiple millions more people are playing over there, but let's just ignore that larger and, ostensibly, more competitive community so "the best" can stay here". Also sounds silly
