Well the program serves to bring back old games (some that have gone out of print) at reduced prices in order to increase interest and sales of said games.
For example, this would be a great thing to do with Pikmin 3 since it isn't really being stocked anymore and prices are ridiculously high online. Releasing it as a Nintendo Select at like $20-30 would no doubt increase the sales of the game and be more tempting to buyers as a whole (even the re-releases of Pikmin 1 and 2 on the Wii did well).
