It's all a matter of timing for Sony... why do a conference on the same day(s) as MS.
Let MS show their games, and then do something big a week later, and MS's stuff is then forgotten or the impact lessened.
Sony can see if MS do a price cut or anything else, and they can then come in and do their own thing.
