I would say that's false
Nintendo hasn't had real third party support since the SNES days
all they need is a smart system. either do a gimmick that's relevant today or just do a traditional controller and hardware with decent specs. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, etc. are more than enough to pull in consumers but in the case with the Wii U the consumers were consumed or just did not buy into the tablet controller
implying that Nintendo needs 3rd party support to sell a system is pretty much killed as an argument by the 3DS- people buy that system for the Nintendo IPs, those are the titles that (by a massive margin) sell the best
if Nintendo truly is going to integrate their handheld and home console together, to play the same games possibly at varying graphical levels, then they will have no problem pulling in consumers
adding a Battlefield or Batman to a system that a Pokemon player wants is not really going to change much of anything. that is a false perspective to view from, because Nintendo has succeeded the most when they were different than their competition, not when they were the same. the answer isn't third party it's a stronger first party with a smart system design
