That's not what you said, though. You said there was hardly any competition, which is untrue as it's had to compete with much bigger names like Mario Kart, Dragon Quest, Smash and Super Mario 3D World. Not to mention the plethora of titles you can only download on the eShop.
Many Nintendo games have shortages when released. It's more often than not at this point. Your second point doesn't make sense because that would apply to every other game, not just Splatoon.
It doesn't matter if the eShop is as strong as PSN and XBL, that has no relevance to the topic at hand.
