They literally have zero heavy hitter titles this holiday season. You can guarantee that they won't delay X. I mean, c'mon, you realize that Xenoblade wasn't exactly a hit? I'm surprised a sequel even happened to begin with, or that they picked Xenoblade as the debut (and what seems likely to be the only) N3DS title. The sales numbers of Xenoblade were about the kind where Nintendo decides not to bother with a sequel.
Anybody who thinks Nintendo would delay this is vastly overestimating how much Nintendo expects this game to sell. It is not a system seller. Nintendo can release it whenever and get about the same sales. Holiday season is just the best time to maximize exposure while everybody is shopping for gifts.
