Was this the first gen that Nintendo released big titles at reduced prices?

They're reduced in price because they're not "big" titles. They're somewhere between a download game and a "full" game with a big budget. At least if we're talking about the same games, here (Captain Toad, Kirby Rainbow Curse, etc.).
