two ways to look at things:
1) each compony on their own isolated from the others.
first console released = 1st, secound = 2nd ect.
2) generation's based on time frame & its competitors.
If your view on the matter, is only about what nr of console this is for nintendo, its the 9th, then its the 9th gen.
However if you compare it to those its up against, its a 8th gen console.
Do you people here that say this is a 9th gen console, from Nintendo, also say MS's Xbox One is only a 3rd gen console?
No its a 8th gen console, because of who it competes against, the same is true for nintendo.
NX will compete against PS4 and Xbox One, for its intire life probably.
That makes it a 8th gen console.
