| Machiavellian said: I agree with the OP that MS doesn't seem to be interested in pushing games that really just look great first. This was the same situation for each generation of Xbox. Sony on the other hand has always had a game that went all out even if it did not reach the playability people wanted. When you think about it, it makes sense as MS is not a retail company so they primary do not think on that level. Sony is a retail company and so they know and understand better the market. |
Yes, pretty much. This applies to PS1 to PS4. Sony always had something to show that made others look worse. Ridge Racer 1 only had one track? Who cares, it looks better than Daytona. Virtua Fighter is a very good port from the arcade? Sure. Tekken looked way better.
PS3 might be an exception here because only 1st gen was looking better than games on 360 but the console had a problem with multiplatform titles and this was also known by the public.
PS4 was on track again with Killzone SF. We can of course argue how bad or good the game is (there will always be defenders) but what helped was also that Ryse, although still very good looking, didn't manage to render at 1080p which was a very dominating talk in forums, it also was doomed right after E3 because of its QTEs. The game didn't have a chance to get hyped like Killzone.
