3DS & Wii U had awful post-launch software output.

3DS launched in March 2011 with Nintendogs+Cats as the big 1st party title and Pilotwings Resort/Steel Diver as smaller support titles. The next 6 months had a total of two 1st party releases which were both 13-14 year old N64 remaster (Ocarina of Time 3D in June, Star Fox 64 3D on September).

Wii U launched in November 2012 and had two big 1st party releases, Nintendo Land & New Super Mario Bros U. They had two 1st releases in the following 9 months, Game & Wario in June & Pikmin 3 in August.

Having a consistent flow of 1st party software would be different than having 6-9 months stretches of only 2 games. He kinda mentions getting back to what Wii did, which pretty much had a new 1st party release every month for the first year.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'd agree with this. It fits with my theory that "Nintendo-like" really means "Wii/DS-era." Though not with the "unique" idea.
