According to the zero punctuation review this was known from the start. There will be 5 multiplayer modes but only 3 will be available at any given time.
Even so, doing this and even being open about it, which they arguably were, is nonsense. Maybe they thought it would have low sales so there wouldn't be enough online activity to sustain more than 3 modes at a time and have people get into matches with low wait times. But damn, now that the player base is of a decent size they should be able to drop that restriction. Either that or they haven;t dedicated enough online capacity to handle more than 3 modes.
