I actually think it was a combination of the first 4 choices you listed.
They were overshadowed by more casual titles.
They definitely werent pokemon, thats for sure.
Poor distribution.
A lot are uncommon to rare now, even on ebay.
Lack of word of mouth or advertisement.

Piracy.
