I think it's actually less confusing than this generation, the difference is you're just used to this, so you don't think twice about it, but if I knew nothing I would be a little confused by stuff like this:

NX is actually simpler for the "dumb parent" they can walk into the store and any NX game they buy will work on whatever NX hardaware their little nephew has. 

With regards to a couple of posters mentioning eDRAM, I think people would be surprised to know the 3DS even has eDRAM. The New 3DS model for example has 10MB of eDRAM. Nintendo pretty much always uses it now, so I think it will be in NX, even in the portable variant. 

idk what even eDRAM is, also the Wii U different things are just SKU's, its just different games, thats not that confusing, if a kid wants a Wii U or NX they would know what games they want and look for it. I gotta admit the 3DS line-up is complicated. but still the NX bundles or what the OP described them as can be confusing, i think nintendo wants to make it even easier, JUST ONE thing that will be a big hit.It would spread much faster aswell if it only was one thing.
