Ultimately it's about freedom of choice, do u prefer playing in short bursts or on the go? Than get the handheld variant. Do u prefer playing on a big TV or local multiplayer with family/friends? Than get the console variant. Do u prefer certain games one way and certain games the other way? Than get both.

Not everybody simply chooses Nintendo handhelds over consoles just because they prefer handhelds better. The handhelds are usually quite a bit cheaper in terms of hardware &:software while also having a much larger software library. Get rid of those barriers and it now just comes down to what form factor u prefer.

There is a rather obvious trend when it comes to Nintendo hardware. And that is that their handhelds are far more popular worldwide than their consoles.

This continued success (arguable with 3DS) in the handheld space, coupled with the fact that the the PS4 and X1 keep pushing forward in the console space and mobile games seen as a largely on the move experience, I think its going to be pretty expected that the handheld is what catches on, and not the console. Unless of course it is heavily gimped compared to the console edition.

i can see the NX being more popular than the WiiU. Bit I think people will stay decidely more handheld unless the value of owning a handheld continues to decline. if you tell me that handhelds are becoming less popular would be the reason its fair game for NX in both its versions, then I would agree with you.

because that is pretty much the only reason that could potentially make NX console the go to device.

Of course I believe the handheld will still be more popular, I'm not arguing against that, but that doesn't matter as long as the console side sells enough to be relevant & profitable. For example, if it's something like NX Portable-70 million & NX Console-30 million than that's certainly enough to be worthwhile for Nintendo.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
