Sorry but that statement is actually a contradiction. First he say's cutting of software for previous hardware upon the release of new hardware is inefficient. Then he states that their only continuing to make 3DS/Wii software while preparing for NX. So it's still possible that software support for old platforms will be dropped the day NX launches.

Of Course, point here is that they will don't stop releasing 3DS/Wii U games because of NX, they will continue to support them while in same time they preparing for NX. And yes probably they will stop releasing software for old console when new console is launch, like with any previous Nintendo console.
