I agree, but I think it also has something to do with inter-relationships as well, not just software, but users in an environment. We've seen this kind of trend with the streetpass, and several wii/U free software titles.
I went ahead and look up synonyms for these kinds of things.

tie-up
loop
unite
union
affinity
fusion
mingle
synthesis
amalgamation
I think nintendo would probably choose a word like one of these and then try to find an offshoot. Like, wii is supposed to symbolize two ideas:
We, as in playing with your friends
and whee! as in Whee this is fun
EDIT: additionally, I think this new system will have a lot to do with amiibo, cards, and the new pillar of "QoL". taking things that are non-video gaming, and making them fun.
