But I don't understand that. Having a powerful console benefits Nintendo as well. Instead of making the console more poweful or weaker than the PS4, they should make it extremely similar, so third party devs don't have trouble making games for the NX as well. Its hard for Nintendo (or anyone) to release games at a constant rate, and even if they plan out an exclusive release schedule years in advance, delays and other problems could ruin that plan. So in between those weeks/months where there are no exclusives, a third party game could easily fill the gap. And why do people have to buy PS+NX or Xbox +NX? Why can't they just buy the NX alone? If Nintendo can make a console like their competitors but offer the same uniqueness that their games have always offered, then they can take some of PS+Xbox's markershare, as well as attract the Nintendo fans and the kids they've always targetted with their games. And not many people buy multiple consoles. Its only the core gamers that do that and they make up a small percentage of the market. Most people just buy one. Finally, making a system that sells its not so easy. We've seen that Nintendo games aren't enough to attract people. If they want a system to sell then they need the NX to have a gimmick, and that won't be easy for them to find and make. |
That's not how it works. Even if the hardware is identical to PS4, third parties won't release their games on Wii U or any Nintendo homeconsole because the userbase doesn't care for their games.
PS4 and XOne has those games because that's mostly the kind of games that are on the console developed by first parties. The audience that buys Uncharted and Halo is willing to buy Mass Effect and Fallout. We can't say the same about the audience of Animal Crossing, Super Mario 3D World, DKC Tropical Freeze and Yoshi Wolly World.
What Nintendo needs is to cater again to the traditional Nintendo gamer, the one that drolls with a Zelda like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy, F-ZeroGX, Fire Emblem, etc. Those gamers could (maybe, tal vez) cater to games like Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, etc.
Nintendo needs to cater to them and do some deals with third parties to flood the hardware with those games. Maybe when gamers see the offerings they are going to buy it.
