Proof of this is in their E3 this year where they intentionally left out games like Fatal Frame and Devil Third because it wouldn't fit with their kiddy puppet show leaving older Nintendo fans hanging.

The family audience still exists. Families didn't all randomly break up in the last 3 years. They just need to know how to capture it if that's what they're trying to do.
