The beginning of a generation is almost always down, especially with how long games take to develop on new hardware and with new tools.
On the other hand, downloadable games keep improving by leaps and bounds and we're getting more Japanese stuff localized than we have since the PS2. It's kind of funny that, even with all the complaining, there is so much more content to play now than at the start of last gen.
Next year should be absolutely loaded. This year has Fallout 4, which will last me for months.
