| disolitude said: I never said all casuals will become MMORGP players...I just used it as an extreme example. I'll never play those games and I've played games for 20 years. :) Also I never said all wii casuals will become hardcore players. No one is attacking the casuals here... However the line has been drawn at this point...Wii does casual gaming very well but hasn't been able to show gamers it can do an imersive 30+ hour game expereince as well as ps360. This seems to be a general consensus at this point with critics and gamers... Its only a matter of time before "SOME" kids that are wii gamers start thinking they are badass gamers and see wii as a "lame casual machine" and decide they want to play GTA5 instead... Stever89 PS1 did everything well not just the casuals. So Ps2 was viewed as the continuation of the complete package hence why it took off like hotcakes. Wii 2 will have to do some other trick or gimmick if it wants to attrack a new audience as Wii has already proven that demographic doesn't care about upgraded graphics. Otherwise it is set to lose the marketshare for sure... |
This goes along with what you replied to me as well. The only reason why the Wii doesn't do immersive 30+ games is because no one has bothered to make a game like that. It's not that it can't do a long, story driven, great game, it's just that few have tried. Nintendo is basically the only one that has put out those types of games. Red Steel might be considered one, though it's probably not too long, and it's not that great. And it sold over a million.
So it's not that the Wii can't do it (though with lesser graphical effects and such), it's that few are trying. So by the time GTA5 comes out, there should be many many more great traditional games for the more hardcore users on the Wii, because eventually someone besides Nintendo is going to smarten up, and the game should be able to sell millions, since not only is demand there (Zelda, RE4, SMG, Red Steel all show there is demand there), but there's very little competition thus far. Besides those games I mentioned, and behaps NMH and a few others, what games really 100% cater to hardcore uses? This is where 3rd parties need to smarten up, and eventually someone's going to do it, and if no one does. Then well, I'm very disappointed in the managers and owners and everyone working there.
