They don't mention the graphical settings used to run the game. And powering 3x4K monitors off a single 4GB card makes me think that the game is not very taxing on the graphics side or that the settings were tunned down quite a bit.

Still impressive, but it needs more context to really judge it.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing.

Just noticed that they have the 8GB R9 390 versions in stock here now, but still no benchmarks. The price makes me think that it is lagging a great deal behing the 980Ti in performance.

Do you know if anyone has published any benchmarks yet? I would love to know soon, been waiting for weeks and only formalities stand between me and my new monster rig.

I still haven't seen a review of the new R9 390, sorry. The 390X has been reviewed by many sites already like Guru3D, Overclock3D or Tom's Hardware.

But I would bet that the performance will only be a tinny bit better than the original 290, making it a bit closer to Nvidia's 970. It's better to go for a cheaper  290 while they last and overclock it a little to get the same results (minus the extra 4GB of VRAM).

Read a bunch of reviews. Basically, the 8GB 390 performs below the GTX 980 on several points and way below the 980Ti. So I'm more or less decided on going for a 980Ti now, it blows everything else besides the Titan X and 295X out of the water and the premium is easily matched by the performance. It also OC's very well according to all sources.

Now I just have to choose a 3rd party cooler/OC version. Thinking of EVGA or Asus, leaning more towards Asus for now. Will probably decide sometime in the coming week, I hardly think that Nvidia will be in a hurry to cut the price of the 980Ti since there really is no need with the 390 being so far behind on performance (but still priced rather high here).
