That's something that always turns me off with indie games is the lack of online. But I know why they don't have it in most games. To expensive and time consuming.  no online in racing games is a no buy for me. 

Not just that, proper matchmaking usually requires a server (not a server to host the match, but just matchmaking servers that pair people up and pick the "best" host).  Matchmaking done purely peer-to-peer usually is better done for co-op, where skill measurements/ranking/etc. don't need to be measured and stacked.
